Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oya AKIN
Oya Akın completed her undergraduate studies in 1987 at the Department of City and Regional Planning at Yıldız Technical University. She received her master’s degree in 1990 and her PhD in 1999 in Urban Planning from the same university. She was awarded the title of Assistant Professor in 2006 and Associate Professor in 2012.
She began her academic career in 1988 as a research assistant at the Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning at Yıldız Technical University. Her master’s thesis focused on property value dynamics in the context of urban growth, while her doctoral research examined the effects of globalization on the urban space of Istanbul. She currently serves as an Associate Professor in the same department.
Her research interests include urban conservation, regeneration and transformation, urban design, and coastal area management. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous research projects, technical reports, planning studies, and consultancy works across different regions, particularly in Istanbul. She has also served as a jury member in urban design competitions.
Akın has held active roles in professional and scientific organizations, including the Vice Chairmanship of the Istanbul Site Areas Advisory Board and membership in the TA-MIR Research Center Board. She is also a member of the Chamber of City Planners (TMMOB).
